LAVA's members are veterinary surgeons involved in a wide range of aspects of laboratory animal medicine and science. Many members act as Named Veterinary Surgeons under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act, while others are involved in other aspects of the use of animals in biomedical research.

Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons

The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons is the professional body of the veterinary profession in the UK. It has responsibility for education and examination of vets, both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. It controls the quality of veterinary education, and fulfils a statutory disciplinary role to maintain professional standards. It also plays an overarching role in the training and examination of Veterinary Nurses.
