FRAME - The Fund for Replacement of Animals in Medical Experiments
FRAME is a charitable trust, founded in 1969. FRAME's ultimate goal is to remove the need to use animals in scientific work. To work towards this goal, the organisation aims to encourage realistic consideration of the ethical and scientific issues involved in the use of laboratory animals and to promote the adoption of the 'Three Rs' strategy. That is: reduction in the numbers of animals used through better science and better experimental design; refinement of procedures, so that the suffering of any animals necessarily used is minimised, and, wherever possible, the proper development, validation and acceptance of replacement alternative methods.
The Dr Hadwen Trust for Humane Research is a registered charity that funds the development of techniques and procedures to replace the use of living animals in biomedical research, testing and teaching. The RSPCA recognises that the use of animals in research and testing is a complex issue and that there is a spread of opinion on the moral and scientific justification for animal use. It adopts a constructive and practical approach to the issue liasing with those involved in animal use in academia, industry and government to further the cause of animals.
